Trump International Hotel & Tower Gold Coast: Australia’s Tallest Building Set for Surfers Paradise

The Trump Organization has signed an agreement to develop its first Australian project: Trump International Hotel & Tower Gold Coast.

The proposed 91-storey tower is planned for Surfers Paradise and, if completed as designed, would become the tallest building in Australia.

A Landmark Development for the Gold Coast

Partnering with Altus Property Group, the project is slated for the Trickett Street site previously earmarked for the stalled Spirit development.

Key proposed details include:

  • Height: 335 metres
  • 285-room luxury hotel
  • 272 high-end residential apartments
  • Exclusive beach club facilities
  • More than 3,400 square metres of commercial, retail and dining space

At 335 metres, the tower would surpass existing skyscrapers to claim the title of Australia’s tallest.

The Brand’s First Official Australian Venture

Eric Trump, Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization, described the development as the brand’s first official entry into the Australian market, positioning the project as a premium global destination.

The agreement was signed by Altus founder and chief executive David Young at the Trump family’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida — underscoring the international profile attached to the deal.

A Site with a Complex History

The proposed site has a layered development history.

Previously approved for an 89-storey tower known as Spirit, the project reportedly saw more than $120 million invested in early works before construction halted in 2018.

The land was later acquired in 2019 by Loi Keong Kuong, a Macau-based casino operator.

What Happens Next?

Gold Coast officials have confirmed that a formal development application will be required before construction can commence.

Regulatory approvals will determine:

  • Final height confirmation
  • Planning compliance
  • Infrastructure integration
  • Community consultation outcomes

Until approval is granted, the project remains at proposal stage.

A Potential Shift in Australia’s Luxury Property Landscape

If approved and completed, Trump International Hotel & Tower Gold Coast would represent:

  • A major addition to Australia’s luxury hotel and residential sector
  • A reshaping of the Surfers Paradise skyline
  • A significant international brand presence within the Australian property market

Beyond height records, the project signals continued global capital interest in premium Australian coastal assets.
